COMPANY PROFILE
The Dosal Tobacco Corporation (Dosal), which was established in Miami, Fla., in July 1962, is a long-time, Florida-based and family-owned company that has nearly 300 Florida families depending upon them for employment. In its main manufacturing plant in Miami and distribution center in Central Florida, Dosal directly employs more than 130 Floridians providing health care and pension benefits with its network of distributors across the state employing an additional 150 Floridians. Dosal is dedicated to providing a variety of employment opportunities in South Florida and across the Sunshine State. In 2018, Dosal opened its Export & International Sales Division, with the company now trying to expand into the international arena.
Based on its Cuban-American family tradition, Dosal is committed to a quality product at an affordable price to the adult consumer, tracing back to its roots with Competidora Gaditana, which began in Spain. Later in the 1920s, Competidora Gaditana was acquired in Cuba by Martin Francisco Dosal from its founder’s family. Through hard work and commitment to produce a quality product, Dosal became one of the top three cigarette manufacturers in Cuba. Additionally, La Competidora’s brand was seen as one of the first television advertisements during the first television transmission in Havana, Cuba, dating back to October 25, 1950.
In the late 1950s after free Cuba fell to the communists, the Dosal family relocated to Miami, Fla., where Martin Roberto Dosal, son of Martin Francisco Dosal, rebuilt the Dosal family business in partnership with other leading brands from Cuba throughout the 1960s. The Dosal family eventually became the sole proprietor, and in 1992 with the passing of her husband, Martin Roberto Dosal, Margarita Dosal took over the family business and remained at the helm of the corporation until her passing in April 2013. The company is now held in a trust for the benefit of the heirs, making Dosal one of the last family-owned companies of its type in the Sunshine State.
Today, the Dosal Tobacco Corporation continues to produce quality products that include cigarettes and filtered cigars.
